Sexual abuse of children or young people is a punishable offence – in Switzerland and abroad!
Each year, more than 1.8 million children and young people around the world are victims of commercial sexual exploitation. They are sexually abused by travellers, trafficked, or forced into prostitution.
Sexual exploitation of children and young people as a phenomenon linked to travel and tourism is a sad reality. New destinations and types of tour and travel packages continue to be developed (e.g. volunteer placements in orphanages or schools as part of a holiday trip) and new destinations are opening up to tourism. This heightens the risk that children and young people may become victims of sexual exploitation.
